Bearded Iris
Iris germanica
The Iris family (Iridaceae) is a large group of popular ornamental plants commonly called iris, flag or Fleur-de-Lis. The majority of the plants in this group are actually native to Asia.

The Iris is classified as a perennial herb and the bearded Iris is a source of orris root, used in perfumes and tooth powders.

My Iris grows in spite of me not because of me. My neighbor took pity on me one year because I didn't have any flowers in my yard. She was thinning her Iris and, I have a feeling, she couldn't bring herself to throw them away. Since she knew I would probably kill them, it wouldn't be on her conscience if they died. Will, the Iris didn't die, and we came to this standing agreement, they grow and I won't mess with them. It seems to work fairly well.
