Fire Pink, a member of the
Pinks Family (Caryophyllaceae), is a bright firey red flower atop a weak, slender stock. The flower is 1 1/2 inches across with 5 narrow, deeply notched petals. Thebasel leaves are up to 4" long while the stem leaves are unstalked, opposite and can be up to 6" long.
The plant grows in open woods, thickets, rocky and sandy slopes from Southern Canada south through to Georgia and Arkansas. The flowers bloom from April to June.
