Wild California Poppy is a member of the Poppy Family (Papaveraceae), that blooms from February to September in open areas and grassy slopes from Southern California to Southern Washington State. It is also the California State Flower.
This Poppy is a smooth, bluish-green plant with several stems and fern-like foilage. The flowers are 1-2" across and a bright orange-yellow color. They are made up of 4 fan shaped petals with many stamens. The plant growsto between 8 and 24" tall.
These flowers are very responsive to sunlight, opening in full sun, and closing at night or on cloudy days.
