Maiden Fair's Butterfly Garden

Butterflys flitter freely through our Garden, we are captivated by their lovely colors and patterns and the soft brush of their wings.

We envy their freedom to come and go as they please, to fly where they will and return when they wish.

We have been offered that same freedom in our Spirits by our Heavenly Father who said:

"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." John 8:36

The butterflys' freedom did not come easily. It had a price. A butterfly starts life as a lowly caterpiller. Now I don't know about you, but as a child, I thought caterpillars were the most revolting things on earth. A caterpiller eats flowers and plants, destroying everything in his path.

After a time he spins himself into a cocoon, retreats from his destructive way of life. After a span of time, the butterfly fights it's painful way out of the cocoon to become the beautiful creature, it is "born again" to a new life. Born this time to nurture the plants they tried to destroy in their former way of life.

Each of us must be born again. A spiritual birth that frees us from darkness and brings us into the light. That birth is not painless and while it costs us nothing, it certainly is not free.

When we receive our new birth, we become transformed, like the butterfly. We are a beautiful new creation. Oh I know we look the same on the outside, but the inside is different, fresh, new, free. We no longer live a life of destruction, but a life of nurturing, uplifting and encouraging.

"For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God." 1 Peter 1:23
