The Queen is a close relative of the Monarch, but it is smaller, a darker brown with white spots on the forewing and on the black wing border. The Queen also has a smaller range than the Monarch. The Queen is found more in the southern areas of North America along the gulf coast, although in the summer months they can be found to the north throughout the plains states. They are rarely found on the Atlantic coast. They prefer open fields, dry washes, pastures and other open areas.
Larvae feed on milkweed and milkweed vines.
