Dragonflys have a reputation for being very dangerous but this is only true if you are a small flying insect, like a mosquito which they eat on the wing. The dragonfly, while very large does not really seem to be a menace to the human population.
Dragonflys come in a variety of colors, but they are all large, around 2 inches, and have four many-veined wings. They rest with their wings outstretched, while the similar, but smaller damselfly rests with wings folded.
Eggs are laid in water and the nymphs develop there. They leave the water after several developing stages. These dragonflys were all found in meadow areas near rivers or streams.
